What is the difference in cost between purchasing a custom tutu and hiring a tutu?
Hiring makes luxury more accessible by removing the upfront cost of a custom piece.
You can hire a stretch tutu from us for as little as $16.50 per week.
Our traditional style tutus hire from as little as $28.95 per week.
For comparison, our commissioned stretch style tutus start from $1395 and our commissioned traditional style tutus start from $2495.
These hire costs include administration time, fitting time, costume maintenance and cleaning between wears.
What if I can not visit you in person for a hire fitting?
If you can not visit us in person for a hire fitting, please do not worry! We successfully hire costumes across Australia without fittings by carefully checking your measurements.
At Tutu Palazzo, we personally check your dancer’s measurements against those of previous hirers and a mannequin in their size to ensure the best fit before advising suitability. Plus, all of our hire costumes are adjustable, so we can make them work beautifully for dancers of all shapes and sizes!
If you receive your tutu and feel the fit isn't quite right, simply contact us with photos and updated measurements. Our Creative Team will review the fit, and if it’s not suitable, we will assist you with an exchange for another tutu!
Not sure how to measure? Watch our step-by-step How To Measure video HERE.
Please note, exchanges are subject to tutu availability, and postage costs are the responsibility of the hirer, unless Tutu Palazzo has advised an inappropriate fit.
I don't know how to measure my dancer, I only have their street wear size, is this enough?
Not quite — every dancer’s fit is unique, and street wear sizes don’t always translate to stage costumes. To ensure an amazing fit, we ask that you provide your dancer’s measurements.
Not sure how? Watch our step-by-step How To Measure video to get accurate results. This helps us select the right tutu and avoid any fit issues, ensuring your dancer looks and feels their best on stage!
I can not find a hire tutu for my variation in my size. What should I do?
Our ‘Make To Hire’ option is the ideal solution for you!
If the right size or variation isn’t available in our current catalogue, we can create a brand new tutu, tailored to your inspiration for your dancer to hire.
Here’s How It Works:
- Browse our hire gallery to see if any tutus meet your needs.
- If you can not find the right fit or style, contact us with your desired costume inspiration, your dancer’s measurements and the date of your first performance.
- We will get in touch to discuss the possibility of creating a brand new tutu tailored for your dancer to hire!
- Shine on stage in a brand new, beautifully fitted and made tutu and simply return after your hire!
This option allows you to have a custom-designed tutu that’s crafted to your inspiration, worn by your dancer, and then returned to our hire collection to be danced in again by another beautiful ballerina. It’s the perfect balance of customisation and flexibility!
Availability dependent on dancer’s measurements.
What if I want to hire for longer than 6 months?
If you wish to hire for 12 months or more, you absolutely can!
We just ensure that our beautiful costumes come back to us at least once every 6 months so we can clean them and maintain them. This can include replacing the straps, extra hand sewing of the decoration and re-steaming/tacking the skirt. This ensures your tutu stays beautiful for many years to come!
We can arrange a suitable time where you have a 1-2 week gap between performances for this and you can then hire for an additional 6 months.
You may find that your dancer has grown during this time or has changed their solo or variation. This also gives you the opportunity to hire a new tutu if you wish!
Can I purchase one of your hire tutus?
Tutus in our Hire Catalogue are not available for purchase. If you are interested in purchasing a tutu, check out our collection of Ready-to-Wear tutus HERE.
Do you post your hire tutus?
Yes! All of our hire costumes can be shipped Australia-wide! Each piece is carefully packed to ensure it arrives in pristine condition.
Our hire service is available within Australia only, however, if you're located internationally, we invite you to explore our range of Ready-To-Wear tutus.

Do you make tutus for young dancers?
Yes! We create tutus for dancers of all ages, from young performers to professionals. Whether you are looking for a special first tutu or a special tutu for a major competition, we have something for everyone.
What is the difference between a stretch and traditional style tutu?
A stretch tutu is made out of stretch fabric (such as lycra or stretch velvet) and is most similar to wearing a leotard. Stretch tutus are pull on tutus (you can put these on yourself)!
Traditional style tutus are made from non stretch fabrics such as gorgeous silks and brocades. They do up with hooks and eyes, so you will need someone to help you get dressed. With traditional tutus, you have a huge range of fabrics types, textures and colours to choose from. Contrary to popular belief, traditional tutus are very adjustable!
I don't live in Australia, can I still make a booking?
Yes! Please contact us prior to making a booking to confirm if delivery to your country is available. We can also arrange a courier quote and advise of any applicable import duties or taxes for your region.
Why are commissioned tutu spaces so limited?
Each Commissioned Tutu is a labour of love, crafted with the time, care, and attention that Tutu Palazzo is known for.
Our small team of artisans works meticulously on every creation, and our Head Creative personally oversees each tutu booking to ensure the world-class quality you expect.
To maintain these exacting standards, we limit the number of Commissioned Tutu spaces available each year — so every dancer receives a tutu that is truly exceptional.
Ready-To-Wear Tutus
How do I know if this tutu will fit me?
Each of our Ready-To-Wear tutus will list a set of ideal measurements. Please check the measurements of your dancer against these.
Not sure how to measure? Watch our step-by-step How To Measure video to get accurate results. This helps us select the right tutu and avoid any fit issues, ensuring your dancer looks and feels their best on stage.
Do you post internationally?
Yes! Please contact us prior to making a booking to confirm if delivery to your country is available. We can also arrange a courier quote and advise of any applicable import duties or taxes for your region.
How long will it take for my tutu to arrive?
Once your order is placed, our team will carefully process your order and prepare your tutu to be posted to you!
Please allow 1-3 business days (Mon-Fri) for this.
Within Australia: Please allow 1–4 business days after processing for delivery.
Tasmania, Western Australia, Northern Territory, or rural/regional areas: Please allow 4–7 business days after processing for delivery.
International Orders: Please contact us prior to purchasing to obtain courier timeframes and a personalised shipping quote.
Please note that once your order is with the courier, delivery timeframes are outside of our control.
Can I return or exchange an item?
We understand that sometimes a size or style may not be quite right.
You are welcome to return your item within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused, has all tags intact and is in original condition. Please see our Returns Policy for full details.
Caring For Your Tutu
How should I store my tutu?
We recommend storing your tutu flat and out of direct sunlight. To store your tutu between wears, please remove it from your tutu bag (as these are plastic and can cause moisture). A great place to store your tutu is underneath your bed wrapped in a breathable cotton sheet!
How should I transport my tutu on a plane?
We have had dancers travel with our tutus all over Australia and the World! Here are a few ways you can travel with your tutu on a plane:
- Carry your tutu in a tutu bag straight onto the plane! Try to board first and place it in the overhead baggage compartment in a curved C shape.
- Place your tutu flat in a tutu bag. Create a cardboard covering by stapling together two circular pieces of cardboard. Slip your tutu bag inside this and close. Check in as oversize baggage.
Please always check with your individual airline.
Please note any Tutu Palazzo Hire Tutus need to be carried on board with you.
What if my applique lifts up on my tutu?
Our tutus are made to last, however there can be minor wear and tear on a tutu from pulling it on and off, storage, catching on things etc. If a small section of your applique (decoration) lifts up, you can gently hand stitch this down with a needle and thread - it is just like sewing your pointe shoes!
Other
How long does it take to make a tutu?
Our professional tutus take anywhere from 25 to 100+ hours to create!
Are your tutus hooped?
Yes, all of our tutus are hooped to give our skirts their beautiful shape.
Few of our hire tutus are not hooped, to better suit their variation. This will be stated on the individual product description page.
How long will my tutu last?
With proper care, storage and maintenance, a high-quality tutu can last for over 50 years!
If you are wondering how long your tutu will fit you for - we can not guarantee how long a tutu will fit you for, as every dancer grows at a different rate! Just as your dancewear brand does not guarantee the lifespan of your pointe shoes or leotards, tutus are the same. When you grow out of your leotard, you usually grow out of your tutu too. We find that most dancers get between 6 months to 2 years of wear out of their tutu, depending on their individual growth.
This is why hiring a tutu is an amazing idea! When your dancer changes size, you can simply hire a new tutu!
Can you adjust my tutu?
We offer adjustments for our hire tutus to fit a range of dancers.
Our Ready-To-Wear tutus have size listings on the product descriptions and are not able to be adjusted.
For Commissioned Tutus, we have limited space for adjustments in our tutu schedule. If you would like to request an adjustment, please contact us with images and a description of your request and we will get back to you.
Please note, we only offer adjustments for tutus made by Tutu Palazzo.
How do you ship your tutus?
All of our tutus are hooped - which is what gives our tutu skirts such a beautiful shape! This means they are not able to be folded in a regular Australia Post bag. We post our tutus in larger boxes via courier to protect our beautiful creations and ensure they arrive to you safe and sound!
Some of our other costumes such as peasant dresses and Cupid costumes, are able to be posted in smaller Australia Post boxes.
Can you sell my tutu for me?
We do not currently offer a selling service for purchased tutus. There are many preloved dancewear pages on Facebook that you can list your tutu on!
