Prerequisites

Private Lessons with Dee are suitable for beginners with a basic understanding of how to use a sewing machine. You don't need lots of sewing experience — just a basic understanding of the fundamentals.

Before attending, you should be able to:

  • Identify the basic parts of a sewing machine
  • Independently thread a sewing machine
  • Sew basic straight seams using a sewing machine
  • Understand basic sewing terminology and follow simple sewing instructions

No previous experience with an overlocker is required, and you don't need to consider yourself an experienced sewist. These lessons are designed to help you develop your skills while working on a project that is meaningful to you.

Please note that Private Lessons with Dee are not designed to teach you how to set up, familiarise yourself with or navigate a sewing machine from scratch. The focus of your lesson will be on your individual sewing project and the skills, techniques and guidance you need to complete it.

If you've never used a sewing machine before, or would like to build confidence with the basics, we recommend completing our Essential Basics: Introduction to Your Sewing Machine lesson before applying for a private lesson.
